15 Top Travel Hacks

  • When searching online for flights and hotels it’s better to enable private browsing as most sites, including travel sites, will track your visits and often raise the price simply because you’ve visited their site before. Just click on the 3 dots at the end of your search bar and you will see an option for a ‘new incognito window.’

  • I find that laying a few tops and skirts on a towel then rolling them together like a sausage with the clothes on the outside, helps to keep them from creasing. It also saves room and you can do the same for dresses and trousers.

  • I use spare (hard) glasses cases and pill boxes to store jewellery and other small items when travelling as it keeps them together and are easy to find.

  • Pack small items of clothing such as socks and underwear into empty spaces like shoes to save space for other things.

  • Store hair clips and hair ties in an empty tic-tac container.

  • If you are packing shirts with a collar, place a coiled belt inside the closed collar to keep it fixed.

  • Re-use travel sized containers such as shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotions by filling them up again instead of throwing away and buying new ones.

  • Re-use the spring from inside an old pen to protect your charger cable from breaking.

  • I often need to use Google Maps while traveling and can use it off-line by typing “OK Maps” in the search bar and the visible area will be saved for future access.

  • Usually, these days, your phone has a good enough camera for awesome photos so no need to pack a large, heavy, chunky Nikon/Olympus/Canon camera.

  • For budget travel, booking your hostel online through a mobile app such as Hostelworld, allows you to make ample searches through the reviews giving you great choices for budget stays in your desired destinations.

  • Buy a lightweight portable phone charger as quite often on your travels you may find your mobile running out of charge and no-where in close vicinity for charging it.

  • Email yourself a scan of your passport, as you’ll thank yourself if ever you’re a victim of theft or loss. Another great idea is to take screenshots of any flight confirmations, trains or busses booked, whether you’re on a laptop, mobile or tablet, make sure you screenshot them while you have wi-fi access, so you can access them when you’re no longer connected. By doing this you will save yourself a lot of stress should anything go wrong.
